Halloween 5 Reimagined
Halloween 5 is often viewed in a negative light when compared to Halloween 4. After all, it does have several shortcomings: a weird mask, stupid cops, bland teenagers, and unnecessary plot devices. I still enjoy it though. I’ve always had a soft spot for this movie.
So I’m going to give this film a complete overhaul and take the plot a little bit closer to its full potential. The mysterious Man in Black won’t exist. Jamie won’t be mute or spend most of her screen time in one location. Rachel will have a more prominent role. And we’re replacing Tina Williams with Lindsay Wallace, the little girl Annie Brackett was babysitting in the original film. Lindsay will be portrayed by Winona Ryder, who around this time was rising to superstardom following her roles in Beetlejuice and the teen comedy film Heathers.
Act I
The opening scene would stay the same. Picking up right where Halloween 4 left off, Michael is gunned down by Sheriff Meeker and other officers. He falls into an abandoned mineshaft and crawls out right before they blow him up with dynamite. Then he disappears into the night.
One year later, it’s Halloween afternoon. We are at Dr. Loomis’ house. He’s been reclusive since the events of Halloween 4. He spends most of his time in his office, pouring over files and writing journal entries about how evil never dies. He’s the only person who believes Myers may still be out there somewhere and it’s given him a reputation as a crazy old man.
Loomis hears the sound of glass breaking, so he picks up his gun and searches the entire downstairs area of his house. The living room window has been shattered. When he returns to his office, he discovers his papers are all over the place. It looks like someone is trying to find out Jamie Lloyd’s location. Myers blindsides him and stabs him multiple times.
Then we go to the Children’s Hospital in Haddonfield. Jamie has spent the past year here after attacking her mother last Halloween. Rachel and her best friend Lindsay visit her. Jamie tells them how much she hates it here and wants to leave. They tell her to keep her head up. She’ll be released soon.
Rachel and Lindsay head to the local discount store to buy Halloween costumes. There’s a big party going on near the outskirts of town later that evening. Rachel doesn’t really want to go, but Lindsay convinces her to tag along.
Timmy, one of Loomis’ neighbors, drops by his house to return some things he borrowed earlier and discovers him lying in a pool of blood. He’s badly hurt, but alive. Timmy calls 911.
Back at the hospital, Jamie gets bored inside her room and walks to the window. She sees Michael Myers standing outside. She panics and runs downstairs. Myers breaks inside and chases Jamie into the basement. He kills a couple nurses, but fails to get Jamie. She escapes out of a backdoor and runs as far away as she can.
Act II
At the hospital, Rachel and Jamie talk to Loomis at bedside. He slowly regains consciousness after hearing their voices. He warns the girls that they need to leave Haddonfield. It’s the only way to survive because Michael won’t rest until he kills Jamie. Meeker assures him not to worry because law enforcement has everything under control.
At the local funeral home, Michael Myers shows up and kills the mortician. He steals a small, child-sized coffin and takes it back to his old house.
Night comes. Lindsay, Samantha, and Ben are all hanging out at Samantha’s place, which happens to be directly across the street from the old Myers residence. A patrol car is parked along the curb. Lindsay and Samantha are playing cards to pass the time. Ben is growing restless. He feels like he’s under house arrest.
He looks out the window and sees Myers walking around the side of his house. He freaks out and runs outside to alert the cops. But he finds them slumped over, dead in the front seat of their car. He grabs one of their guns. When he looks up, he sees Michael watching him from across the street.
Ben runs back to the house and locks the door. Michaels breaks it down and follows him upstairs. He stabs Samantha in the stomach and throws her against the wall. Ben fires several shots at Myers, but they don’t phase him. Michael grabs him by the throat and chokes him out. Lindsay picks up the gun and kicks it into high gear. She empties the remaining shots into him as she runs outside. She gets in the cop car, pushes the dead officers out of the way, and pulls off.
Sheriff Meeker drops off Jamie and Rachel at their safe location, a farmhouse near the outskirts of town. One of the other officers on guard duty tells him another call just came in on the radio. This time it’s Lindsay talking about the run-in she had with Myers. Meeker gives her the address to the safe house and then heads to the station. Other officers head to the crime scene. Only two stay behind to watch the girls.
Lindsay arrives at the safe house. She’s still in fight or flight mode due to everything she just experienced. Rachel and Jamie help calm her down.
Near Samantha’s house, Myers is lurking in the trees. He overhears a pair of cops discussing Jamie and Rachel’s location at the farmhouse. So he steals a cop car and drives there. When he reaches the farmhouse, he sneaks in through a back door.
At some point, Jamie leaves the other girls and goes into the living room. She finds the two cops dead. She screams and Michael emerges from the shadows. Rachel and Lindsay run to her aid. Rachel grabs a shotgun and aims it at Michael, but its jammed. Before she can fix it, Michael wrestles the gun away from her and knocks her out with it. Then he corners Jamie with his knife raised high. At the last second, Lindsay jumps in front of him, sacrificing herself to save Jamie.
Jamie sprints for the front door, but Michel grabs hold of her. He takes her outside, throws her in the trunk of the cop car and drives off. Rachel slowly regains consciousness and notices Jamie is gone. She panics.
Act III
At the hospital, Loomis grows restless and checks himself out. He flags down a truck passing by and gets a lift to the police station. Meeker is on the phone. Rachel just called and told him Michael showed up and took Jamie. Loomis says there’s only one place he could’ve taken her: home.
At the Myers house, Jamie is lying semi-conscious inside a casket, surrounded by candles and photos of herself. Michael has created some sort of ceremonial murder scene just for her. He enters the room and tries to stab her, but she fights him off. He chases her all over the house. Loomis, Meeker, and Rachel show up. Jamie takes cover behind them, while Loomis shoots Michael several times with a tranquilizer gun. Meeker jumps in, beating Michael severely with a wooden plank until he’s unconscious.
Meeker and other officers take Myers into custody and lock him up in a jail cell, where he awaits transfer to a maximum security prison. Everyone is happy, except for Loomis, who deep down in his heart, knows that sooner or later Michael will somehow escape and kill again.
